Recover deleted Asana tasks: your real options

Deleted the wrong task or project? Here's exactly what Asana can undo on its own, where that ends — and how a daily backup picks up from there.

What Asana offers natively

For a few seconds after a mistake, Ctrl+Z reverses the action you just took. After that, deleted tasks and projects sit in a deleted-items view for roughly 30 days — if you notice in time and the item is still there, recovery takes a few clicks. That's the good news.

Then the limits start. Once the ~30-day window closes, deleted items are gone permanently, and Asana support cannot retrieve them. Undo only ever covers your most recent action — never a bulk change. And several kinds of damage never produce a deleted item at all.

Damage that bypasses the deleted-items view

Recovery with a daily snapshot

With Asana Backup, every day is a complete, dated snapshot of the workspace. To recover: open the snapshot from before the damage, find the task or project as it was — comments, attachments, custom fields intact — and download it. When records need to go back inside Asana, every plan includes guided recovery: we help you restore them into the right project, with the right values, step by step.

It's the difference between "we think it's gone" and "we know exactly what was there — here's yesterday's copy."
